Ethiopian FM Mediates Disputed Somali President and his Prime Minister in Baidoa

Mogadishu, (insidsomalia.org) Ethiopian foreign minister Seyoum Mesfin who arrived on Wednesday in Baidoa, the official site of the Somali Parliament had started talks with Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed and Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein, said government official.

"The talks aimed end a political row between President Yusuf and Premier Nur Adde” said the official who spoke to InsideSomalia.org in anonymity.

Mesfin came to Baidoa for mediation efforts as tension over this political row between Somali president and the prime minister gets into its highest point, as indicated by sources close to both Mr Yusuf and Nur Adde.

The situation became serious when talks between the president and the Prime Minister mediated by the Speaker of the Parliament got into closet, said a political analyst speaking to InsideSomalia.org.

President Yusuf and Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein together with Speaker of the Somali Parliament Sheikh Aden Nur arrived in Baidoa from Mogadishu and started consultations with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin, said a Somali MP who spoke in anonymity.

Reports said that the conflict arises from how government faces a plan to start dialogue with the opposition including those fighting government and Ethiopian troops in the capital Mogadishu.

Former Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi resigned from the Prime Minister's office last October after feuding with President Abdullahi Yusuf over the management of government finances and policies.

Last month, Gedi told reporters in Nairobi that he plans to run for Somali president in the upcoming 2009 general elections.

Some reports said the Ethiopian government is grooming Gedi to become Somalia's next president, following general elections next year when the interim government's mandate expires.

Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein, former Humanitarian officer was appointed as Somali Prime Minister last year and he repeatedly said that his government want has a plan to have inclusive dialogue with the opposition including the insurgents fighting in Mogadishu.

President Yusuf said that Somali government will not have talks with what he described as terrorists
